Volunteering
There are many opportunities to volunteer, whether it is a few hours a week or a few hours over the course of the entire school year. Any contribution is a huge help and makes a positive impact in the students’ experience at AHES. All you need to volunteer is a little bit of time and a lot of heart!
Don’t feel comfortable committing to a position? No problem! We always need extra hands to help out at events or in classroom parties. The PTA and Room Parents will send out emails throughout the year regarding these types of volunteer opportunities.
Volunteering Opportunities
-

PTA Executive Board
The Executive Board is responsible for running the PTA, meeting with the school administration, communicating with the families, and determining how funds will be allocated. They oversee all of the committees, providing guidance and support as needed. The time commitment ranges from a few hours every two weeks, to several hours a week. These positions are held for the entire school year.
-

PTA Committee Chairs
There are several committees required to run the programs we offer throughout the year. This includes programs such as the Book Fair, Pumpkin Patch, Movie Night, Yearbook, and Spirit Wear. No special skills are required and many of the responsibilities can be done on your own time. The time commitment varies across the committees. These positions are held for the entire school year.

Room Parents & Class Volunteers
Both Room Parent and Class Volunteers are arranged through your student’s teacher.
Room Parent: Each classroom needs 1-2 parents to organize and run the 3 classroom parties throughout the year, Teacher Appreciation Week activities, and a donation basket for your class for the pumpkin patch. We also ask the room parent to create and manage a class #groupme account or create a text chain among classroom parents to field questions and get information disseminated quickly. The Room Parent is the best line of communication between the PTA and the parents. This position is held for the entire school year.
Classroom Volunteer: If you would rather help out in the classroom on a weekly basis (usually for 1 hour at a time), you can reach out to the teacher directly to ask about opportunities to volunteer.

Dad’s Club
The Smith Dad’s Club is a volunteer organization that works to assist students, staff and the PTA of Agnes L. Smith Elementary. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout the year at events and for projects as needed. There is no formal time commitment so you can participate as much or as little as you are able.
Become a PTA Member!
-
Your participation is crucial to the PTA’s mission of nurturing a supportive community where students and families can thrive both at school and at home. As a PTA Member, not only are you contributing financially to the PTA, but we need PTA Members to vote at meetings to release funds for various programs and events. You are not required to attend meetings or serve on a committee, but we strongly encourage participation even if you can only spare a few hours.
-
A PTA membership is $10 and must be renewed every year. Smith PTA receives about $3.40 from each membership. The money raised from PTA memberships goes towards various enrichment programs and campus improvements. Everyone in your family (parents, grandparents, students) is eligible to register as a member so everyone can be involved!

Check out our Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about the PTA, monthly meetings, and what we do with the money we raise.
Volunteer Requirement:
All volunteers are required to have a valid TB test on file with the Smith Office staff. TB test results are valid for 5 years.
You must have your TB test completed before you can volunteer on campus.
