Run Club

Smith Elementary now has a Run Club. Students, coaches and parents meet Monday and Thursday for 45 minutes after school to run and build endurance. They also earn miles towards their “marathon” and the final mile of their marathon is run during the Kids Run the OC event the weekend of the OC Marathon on May 1, 2027. Over 140 schools participate in this event which is designed to inspire kids to enjoy fitness. Kids Run the OC is a program sponsored by Hoag in association with the OC Marathon. Thank you for your interest in Smith Run Club. The club will most likely start in January 2027 and go until April 2027. Please stay after school any Monday with sneakers, water, and athletic clothing and be ready to run.

  • Who can join?

    Any Smith student is eligible to join regardless of prior experience or training! We ask that Kindergarten students have a parent stay during the club.

  • What does it cost?

    Nothing. Run Club is free and students will wear their Smith spirit wear shirt for Kids Run the OC run in the spring to show unity and school spirit.

  • When do they train?

    Students will train with Coach Jennifer after school every Monday and Thursday starting in January and running until April 2027. May 1, 2027 is the Kids Run the OC event.

  • When is the Kids Run the OC?

    The event will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2027 starting at around 8 am. It will be held at the OC Fair and Event Center, 88 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa. Parking is $15 per car. To see more information about the location and race day schedule see kidsruntheoc.org/event-day

Kids Heat Schedule:

  • 8am - Open Heat #1 (9 & up)

  • 8:30am - Open Heat #2 (8 & under)

  • 9am - 11 & up

  • 9:30am - 10 year olds

  • 10am - 9 years olds

  • 10:30am - 8 year olds

  • 11am - 7 year olds

  • 11:30am - 6 & under

  • 12pm - Event Concludes
