2026-2027 Back to School Packet

A 2026-2027 Back to School Packet was handed out to every student at the beginning of the year. It serves as an overview of the PTA role at Smith and included a September calendar.

Smith Spirit Wear

At Smith, we love to show our Surfer Pride! Spirit Wear will be on sale the first two weeks of school, then again three more times throughout the year. The spirit Wear store opens the beginning of the school year, once at the end of November/early December, again at the end of January/beginning of February, and finally in the springtime. The ordering window is usually from a Friday to the next Sunday (a week later). If you miss the window, please keep your eye out for announcements in Parent Square and on Instagram at Smithpta for the next ordering window.

All sales are final. All orders will be processed after the webstore closes. Orders will be delivered to the school a few weeks after being processed.

Students, staff and families are encouraged to wear their Spirit Wear every Friday to show their Smith Surfer pride. TK & Kinder students will get a shirt at their playdate that they can wear on the first day of school and on Fridays for Spirit Day.

WhatsApp

While the main channel of communication from the PTA is this website and the weekly Parent Square newsletter, we’re hoping whatsapp will become the unofficial app for communication between parents in a classroom or grade level. We plan to have a group for each class, the invitation will come from your Room Parent. The Room Parents will post updates and reminders about what is happening at the school, so it is a great way to stay informed and build connections with the other parents. The app is free to download, has no ads, and is free to sign up. To see if your grade level or class is on GroupMe, please reach out to your room parent. Again, this is not an official PTA program and it is completely voluntary whether you sign up or not.

1st Day for TK & Kinder Students

Please plan walking your student up to the TK & Kinder gate at the 14th Street entrance. Do not park in the neighbor’s driveways or double park. The Kinder playdate will help ensure their understanding of the procedure and familiarity with the space. For more info on parking, check out the Drop off and Pick up Procedures.

1st Day for 1st - 5th Grade Students

Parents can walk all students directly to their classroom on the first day of school through 14th or 17 street entrance. Each day after the first day, students will need to walk through the entrance gate and to class by themselves.
