For Immediate Release:

HUNTINGTON BEACH CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT TO OFFER EXTENDED-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM

Starting January 30, 2012, Huntington Beach City School District will provide an Extended-Kindergarten Program. The curriculum and related learning activities are designed for children who were too young to attend the start of the regular kindergarten program last September but who will be five years old by January 30. Hands-on, learning-by-doing activities are provided in a rich, stimulating learning environment.

The curriculum is based on the needs and abilities of students rather than chronological age alone. Activities are planned to develop children’s self-esteem and positive feelings toward learning. This nurturing, yet challenging program gives children specific instruction in thinking skills that are foundational to learning academic content.

The program will be held Moffett School located at 8800 Burlcrest. The length of the school day at Moffett School is 8:05 – 1:25 (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday) and 8:05 – 11:50 (Thursday). Parents must provide transportation.

The West County Family YMCA offers licensed, fee-based childcare programs throughout the district. Parents may call (714) 847-9622 if more information is desired.

Registration forms are available at Moffett School ONLY beginning December 1, 2011 at 9:00a.m. At the time of registration, parents will be required to provide proof of child’s age, up-to-date immunizations, health exam, and residency. Registration forms will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration forms must be returned to Moffett School ONLY.

For additional information, call the Superintendent’s Office at 714-964-8888, ext. 2011.
