Dear Smith Families,
I hope you had a pleasant week! We had a great PTA meeting last week – as always, thank you everyone for your time and contribution to the discussion.
In case you missed it, we nominated and ratified the Budget Review Committee. The budget was reviewed and approved this past June before district/school COVID guidelines were set. We will be reviewing it and updating it over the next couple of weeks to include virtual programs, removing programs that don’t meet guidelines, as well as adjusting our fundraising goals, and making sure that we have enough funds for next year. Please don’t hesitate to email the Budget Review Committee if you have any questions about its purpose, the review process, or have any ideas to share for programs that would benefit the kiddos at Smith this year. The committee will meet as soon as we get back from break with the goal of presenting a revised budget to you/the Association at the January meeting.
We also discussed the Nominating Committee and the March elections. We are still looking for a couple of volunteers – please email Carlee, Smith PTA Parliamentarian, asap if you are interested in joining the committee or have any questions. If you are interested in joining the Exec Board next year, I recommend that you reach out to current board members to learn more about their position, review the CAPTA website, and let Carlee know you are interested in joining the board.
Last but not least, another priority for the Smith PTA Exec Board as we close out the year is the Audit. Shout out to Stephen, Smith PTA Auditor, for taking this on this year. He will be working on it in January and providing an update at the next Association Meeting. We are currently looking for two volunteers to join the Audit Review Committee – please email Stephen asap if you are interested in learning more about being part of it.
Here are other Smith PTA updates:
READ-A-THON WINNERS ANNOUNCED!
The winners of the grand prize for the Read-a-Thon were announced at the Smith PTA Association meeting last week. Congrats to Isaac Nichols for reading the most minutes and Soleil Lorenz for raising the most funds at the school.
Our amazing Principal, Mrs. Ashton, drew the winners for each of the main categories live at the meeting. Check out our fundraising page for details on the rest of the winners and prizes. Stay tuned for details on where/how to get your prizes .
Thank you everyone for your time and support. We had a great turnaround. HUGE shout out to Susan, VP of Fundraising, for putting this together! This is her first year on the board and her first fundraiser at Smith – if you haven’t yet, send a quick email to congratulate her.
HBCSD MEETING ON TUESDAY
The next HBCSD board meeting is coming up on Tuesday (12/15). There will probably be lots of public comments regarding recent COVID developments – consider dialing in and sharing contributing.
Note that during our PTA meeting last week, Mrs Ashton urged the Association to submit comments to the board about the current COVID developments (keep the schools open? close them?). I realize that this is a polarized issue – make sure that your voice is heard by the HBSCD board.
Exciting meeting last week: in addition to our Read-a-Thon announcements, we also shared theReflections slideshow. Take a minute to watch it and share it with your kiddo(s). This is an amazing program – shout out to all of the participants; Stephanie, Chair, for being the driving force behind this program at Smith; and Liz for putting this awesome slideshow together. Thank you all!
Note that the theme for next has already been announced. The 2021-22 theme is “I Will Change The World By.” I encourage you to (casually, or in my case, not so casually) plant the seed in the mind of your kiddo(s) and get the creative juices flowing.
UGLY SWEATER DAY THURSDAY!
Show your spirit with Ugly Sweater Day on Thursday (12/17). Don’t forget to snap a picture and share for the yearbook.
I think that covers it! This week is the last week before winter break. Enjoy and please don’t hesitate to email me if you have any questions.
