Dear Smith Families,
I hope you had a pleasant Thanksgiving break! This time of the year has always been a time for us to reflect on the things we are grateful for, and this week was no different.
It’s hard to believe the year we’ve had. Things haven’t been easy, but all-in-all, I am grateful for people who have been gracious, understanding, and who have kept the communication channels open. That’s really all we can ask for when times are uncertain, and everyone is doing their best to get through each day, so thank you.
Here are some things to look out for this week:
SUPPORT SMITH PTA THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
Don’t forget to use AmazonSmile if you are shopping on Amazon this year! It’s a great way (or for some of us, excuse?) to shop and support Smith PTA. Now is a great time to learn more about it, especially with Cyber Monday coming up tomorrow and the holidays right around the corner. Although, if I’m going to be perfectly honest, it feels like every day this year is Cyber Monday.
READ-A-THON THEME WEEK
We have almost reached 20,000 minutes read as a school, and $5K funds raised for the Read-a-Thon.
Mrs Garland’s class is currently in the lead with most minutes read, and Mrs Dalton’s class is in the lead for most $$ raised. “Isaacthecool” is in the lead with most minutes read, and Paige H. is in the lead for most $$ raised. We are so grateful for this turnout. Thank you for your time and support!
If you haven’t joined yet, don’t worry, now is the perfect time to start. We still have a week to go and plenty of time to meet the goals of this challenge.
We will also be doing themes every day this week, including “read to your stuffed animal” on Monday, “read in a fort” on Tuesday, “read outside” on Wednesday, “read in a funny voice” on Thursday, and “read twice” on Friday.
Take some time to read with your kiddos, enjoy the weather, and grab a cup of hot chocolate now that the weather is finally getting cooler. And! Please don’t forget to post pictures and/or videos on our Smith PTA Facebook page. These will make great memories to share for the yearbook this year.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
The December Smith PTA Association meeting is Thursday, December 10th, at 4 PM. Log on to Zoom to get updates (another Zoom? I know…), get some updates from Mrs Ashton, learn about the next steps for the PTA elections, and stay tuned for a special treat from Reflections. Take a look at the agenda, and let us know if you have any questions.
Otherwise, note that the end of the 1st trimester is on Friday, December 11th, Winter Recess starts on Monday, December 21st, and we’ll be back from break on Monday, January 4th, 2021. #Goodbye2020 #GoodRiddance
Last but not least, don’t forget to dial-in to the HBCSD Regular Board Meeting on Tuesday, December 15th at 6 pm for district updates.
Shout out to Mrs Krogstad and her class! She has reached 100% membership and will receive $100 toward class reimbursement. Thank you again for your time and support.
In other news, we currently have 399 PTA members, that’s 61% of our goal. If you’re not a member yet, consider signing-up, and/or sponsoring a membership for another class on TOTEM so that they can meet their goal. I believe Mrs Mullins is still very close to meeting 100% class membership. If you would like a break down of which class is close to meeting their goal, so that you can know exactly who to sponsor, please reach out to Jenny, VP Membership, at email@example.com.
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS
If you have some time to spare and would like to get more involved in the Smith PTA, please let us know asap.
We are currently putting together several committees, including the Nominating Committee, the Budget Review Committee, and the Auditor Review Committee.
These are all essential committees of the PTA and would benefit from your insight. In particular, the Nominating Committee meets to discuss PTA elections for next year. I realize it seems early, but elections are in March, so I would like you to start thinking about positions you might be interested in and reach out to current board members and get more information about what they do.
The Budget Review Committee is especially important this year since we are currently balancing between having enough funds for next year and maximizing how to give back to the school. We will be reviewing the budget that was approved in June and revising it to better suit our current circumstances.
The Auditor Review Committee consists of two people and is needed as part of our July 1st, 2020 – December 31st, 2020, since our auditing process does not include a CPA. Therefore, it is important (and HUC/CAPTA rules) for a Review Committee to review the audit report before it is ratified.
I think that’s it for this week! As always, I am grateful for your time and support. Let me know if you have any questions, comments, and/or concerns. Happy to talk things through.
