Room Parent Meeting POSTPONED

Dear Smith Families,

I hope this finds you well. We had a relatively slow week last week, but things are picking up again. Tuesday is the regular HBCSD meeting, and on Friday, the entries for the Halloween Costume Contest are due. Note that the Room Parent Meeting that was originally scheduled for Wednesday this week has been postponed.

If you haven’t checked it out already, don’t forget to read up on info shared by the school on the Phase 2/Hybrid schedule, and look up what cohort your kiddo(s) is in

On our end, we’ve been practicing wearing masks and adjusting it – it’s tight around the ears; washing hands (and not picking our nose, apparently that’s still possible with a mask! lol); and social distancing. We also spent quite a bit of time, especially these past couple of weeks, abating his worries and talking through emotions he has about going back. With him, it’s always been about going through the motions, to prep him for situations. I still remember when we worked on drop off last year (1st grade). At first, we’d drop him off at the gate, he’d wait, and then we’d park, and walk inside together. We did that a few times, and then, next thing we knew, he didn’t want to wait for us at the gate, he wanted to go straight to the 100 mile club. That worked for him. We’ve continued to do that for new things, and really hope that he’ll be OK for drop off on the 26th. I’d love to hear what you’ve been doing to prep your kiddos to either go back to school on 26th or continue virtual learning. Any bit helps.

Since we are on the topic, I’d like to take this time to give a big shout out to our Principal, Mrs Ashton, and our Smith teachers and staff for their dedication, and pulling everything together while being virtual and getting ready for Phase 2. In addition, thank you to parents/families for your time and support during these unprecedented times. Last but not least, thank you to our Smith PTA volunteers and Executive Board for their time and commitment. It’s definitely been one of those school years, and it’s only October.

We are all in this together. I hope we can take this time to be grateful for what we do have and be gracious toward each other whenever possible.

Thanks, and have a great week!
