We Made It!

Dear Smith Families,

We made it through the first week of school! To recap, the drive-through and teacher meet & greet took place on Tuesday and Wednesday, the first day of school was Thursday. “Smart Days” were on the first couple of days of school, and we commemorated 9/11 on Friday.

HUGE thanks to teachers and staff for their time and effort, and to Smith families for their patience as we figure things out. 2020 isn’t making things easy on any of us.

Next week, we’ll hold our first PTA meeting of the year on Thursday, 9/17, at 4 pm, and there is a special HBCSD meeting on Tuesday, 9/15, at 5 pm.

Here are highlights from last week and what to look forward to next week:

Welcome Back Breakfast & Lunch

The Smith PTA put together a Welcome Back breakfast and lunch (and stocked the fridge) for teachers and staff during the drive-through last week. We are so grateful for everything you do!

Shout out to the Starla Edwards (VP Extraordinaire), Jenny Olson (VP Membership), Susan Weisheit (VP Fundraising), Laura Crooks (Treasurer), Carlee Okerman (Parliamentarian), and everyone else involved for brainstorming, getting donations, and putting everything together. #DreamTeam

The first couple of days of school were dedicated to getting ourselves set-up and acclimated to virtual learning. Here is what you need to know:

  • Chromebook’s. Open the lid, if you’re brand new, add user, and/or log on, using
    • username
      • student id number @hbcsd.us
        • example: 12345@hbcsd.us
    • password
      • returning students: your password is the same as last year, your child’s last name with a capital letter
        • Example, Guerrero
      • new students: your password is your child’s birthday, MMDDYYYY
        • Example, 01212009
  • Parent Square is the main way you will be getting news and information from school. If you’re not getting these, please be sure to sign-up.
  • Canvas is essentially your classroom.  It’s a learning management system that houses lessons, homework and due dates, upcoming tests/quizzes, teacher announcements,  zoom info, resources, etc.
  • Clever is where you can access all of the resources available to you. It’s a student portal that allows students to access all district programs and resources with only one login username and password (versus the multiple ones we had to keep track of last year).

Still have questions? Don’t hesitate to reach out to us at feedback@smithpta.org.
